NDE School of Animation Goes Live!

The long-winding OMR is quite a headturner. Both sides of the highway are lined with world-renowned MNCs. The afternoon of June 14, 2010 saw our car compete with the speed of sound as we raced to make it in time for the inauguration of a long-cherished dream – NDE School of Animation.

Pacifica Tech Park wore a cheerful ambience. A riot of colour beckoned us in the driveway. As we entered the seating area, we were confronted by the colossal Technology Park. The place, we decided, was just perfect for a School of Animation.

Esteemed dignitaries, excited staff, enthused students, rapt press people and more made up a motley well-wisher crowd. The ceremonies began with the traditional “Tamil Thai Vazhthu” and was followed by the lighting of the Kuthuvizhakku and unveiling the plaque for inauguration.

Honorary delegates from Asia E University graced the occasion, Tan Sri Daro. Syed Jalaluddin Syed Salim, Chairman of Asia E-University and Prof. Dato Dr. Ansary Ahmed, President Asia E- University. Dr. R. Velmurugan, Chairman/Managing Director, Bureau of India Distance Learning and MR. S. Gopal, Principal, NDE School of Animation also made their erudite presence felt. Shri. G Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Madras University, Chennai made time from his busy schedule to grace the occasion. Also present were eminent personalities from the world of Cinema. They included Mr. Aaron Ong Lai Huat, International Film Director, Malaysia; Shri. Arivazhagan, Film Director and Mr. Manoj Paramahamsa, Cinematographer.

The star-studded evening was accentuated further by the insightful speeched by the dignitaries. Their enthusiasm for the subject was evident in their avid articulation of the booming animation, visual effects & digital filmmaking industry, the promising career prospects and the pursuit of passion and happiness. Today, they noted, unlike a few decades back, students are free to decide and excel in their chosen careers. And with animation breaking new ground in the the cinematic, television and internet media, the prospects for the student are just getting better with time.

After the distribution of mementos and honoring the dignitaries on the stage, all were welcomed into the 25,000 sq. ft. facility where state-of-the-art awaited them. The evening concluded with the director calling the shots!

Well, all bodes well for the student of Animation, now that there is NDE School of Animation to look forward to. The first Animation School to introduce Animatronics in its curriculum, NDE School of Animation places more emphasis on practical learning. The subjects are designed to extract maximum traction from theoretical learning. The purpose of attaching the School to the Production House is to enable live environment access to our students. NDE students will be privy to some of the best technology worked upon by some of the best minds in the country.

My world changed in three hours!

Well, I know three hours is a long, long time. Life can change in a split second. But my story, being mine, took a good two hours to change track.

Sitting in utter darkness, I waited for the light to shine on me. And it did as it revealed James Cameron’s ambitiously titled Avatar. Spectacular from the word go. Captivating to say the least.

I couldn’t take my eyes of Pandora. And Jake’s universe became mine. The surreal panorama lodged into my psyche in all its psychedelic palette. The creatures from another world, that of imagination, raced to create Goosebumps on my skin. And while fascination with films took on a new high, 3D took hold of my senses like never before.

Now, as the wonder tale of the Na’avis and the Avatars runs the Box Office victory lap, I wonder why India (The ‘Avatar’ Connection, remember) hardly makes a wave in the Animation universe.

Before we rue too much, let me tell that all is not lost. In the next post, you will get to see how NDE School of Animation ups the ante for 3D. And trust me, this is to do with Avatar!

The Seat of Excellence in Animation

Until then, NDESchool says ‘Take Good Care’!
